To shield уоur interior from the harmful effects of UV exposure, have Sunset Window Tinting install a UV blocking film. Any window from a totally unprotected single pane window to a new double glazed window will let in various degrees of UV radiation. Low “e” windows do provide some protection. However, only the highest quality low “e” windows can provide the same UV protection that our films can achieve. The percentage of UV protection that your unprotected window currently provides can easily be assessed and demonstrated on site with a simple test with a UV meter.
Solar control blinds may also help reduce UV exposure, but blinds work by filtering the light through a mesh window covering. Therefore, UV rays are only partially blocked. This can be demonstrated on site with the use of a UV meter. Blinds also need to be closed to give protection obscuring the view. Window film will provide constant protection without changing your view.
Your health and UV exposure
Did you know that the Government of Canada in their report on Canadian Cancer Statistics 2015 predicts that 45% of males and 42% of females will have some form of skin cancer in their lifetime. That is 1 in every 2.2 males and 1 in every 2.4 females.
Did you know that exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays is the leading cause of skin cancer in North America?
There are two main types of UV rays coming from the sun, UVA rays which account for 90% of exposure, and UVB rays. Both UVA and UVB rays are known to cause skin cancer. Unprotected glass blocks all of UVB but allows UVA to come through. Exposure to the sun through unprotected glass should, therefore, be a concern. We would not go out in the sun without sunblock, but we rarely consider that we are being exposed in our home or place of work.
Sunset Window Tinting can install UV control window film that will reduce UVA rays by over 99% that makes it an extremely effective way to protect against harmful UV exposure.
